Zachary Kerner and Angela Gil Honored with Her Justice Legal Team Award
New York—At a ceremony held last night, Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP lawyers Zach Kerner and Angela Gil received the 2020 Legal Team Commitment to Justice Award on behalf of Her Justice, a nonprofit that provides free legal help in family, matrimonial, and immigration matters to women living in poverty in New York City.
Zach and Angela were recognized for their work on behalf of a mother of two children who immigrated to New York from the Dominican Republic, speaks very little English, and suffered through an abusive relationship in which her husband prevented her from becoming financially or socially independent. Zach and Angela initiated a divorce proceeding on her behalf, and after conducting discovery into her husband’s financial assets, negotiated a favorable divorce settlement, under which she will receive spousal maintenance and equitable distribution of the marital property.
In its write-up of their work, Her Justice notes: “The HSG attorneys could not have reached a better outcome for their client. Their impeccable research, tenacious approach and belief that they could prevail even in the most difficult situations, ensured [their client’s] financial security. Her lawyers clearly demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their client and achieved the best possible result for [her] and her children.”
To commemorate its fifth anniversary in February 2017, HSG made a significant financial contribution to Her Justice, establishing the firm as a corporate partner. Since then, HSG lawyers have handled over a dozen cases for Her Justice clients.
