09.18.2020

New York—Dorit Ungar Black, a founding partner of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, has been named Best in Litigation by Euromoney Legal Media Group for the 2020 Women in Business Law Awards. The annual awards recognize women for their contributions to the practice of business law, as well as their accomplishments, advocacy, and influence in their professional fields. The honorees were announced at a virtual ceremony held on September 17, 2020.

As a founding partner, Dorit has helped establish HSG as one of the nation’s preeminent litigation firms. She focuses her practice on disputes regarding commercial contracts, complicated financial instruments, business acquisitions, business torts, insurance disputes, commercial leases, and international construction projects. Among other litigation successes, Dorit helped secure a $2.4 billion award against Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. over its sale of tens of thousands of toxic home loans before the investment bank imploded at the outset of the financial crisis. Currently, she represents affiliates of the government-owned investment fund AIMCo, and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., as securities intermediary, in innovative, multimillion-dollar litigation against insurance carriers concerning improper Cost of Insurance rate increases.

Dorit was recently named a Notable Woman in Law by Crain’s New York Business and a Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. Among other accolades, she has also been recognized as a Female Powerbroker by Law360, a Rising Star by the New York Law Journal, and a Woman Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal.
