Widely revered by clients and peers for its approach and litigation acumen, HSG continued to demonstrate the strength of its practice through numerous successes in 2025, including: a unanimous victory at the U.S. Supreme Court; a “landmark decision” (Wall Street Journal) in a closely-watched victory in the Fifth Circuit on behalf of a group of lenders challenging a controversial restructuring; and a series of key wins for the insurer Chubb over who should bear financial responsibility for the opioid epidemic.
HSG also won a $125 million judgment against Walmart after a jury trial in the company’s home state of Arkansas, and a substantial jury verdict in another industrial giant’s backyard—for aerospace startup Zunum in a trade secrets case against Boeing in federal court in Seattle, with the Ninth Circuit reinstating the verdict in full on appeal.
Mike, who is recognized throughout the industry as a “quintessential lead trial lawyer” who “leads by example and excels not only in case strategy but in oral argument and overall court presence,” currently serves as national lead trial counsel to Visa in multi-district class action antitrust litigation filed on behalf of merchants, as well as in opt-out cases brought by the world’s largest retailers relating to network rules at the heart of the Visa system, among other high-profile matters.
