Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP partner Matt Gurgel was named to Crain's New York Business' 2026 list of Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting & Law, which honors professionals reshaping organizations and client service whose work advances growth, transparency, and resilience.

Serving as the firm's Administrative Partner since January 2025, Matt was recognized for his leading role on the team serving as nationwide trial counsel to a major insurer in more than 20 insurance coverage cases arising from the opioid crisis, his representation of trustees and other interested parties in RMBS putback litigation, and his defense of directors and officers in response to breach of fiduciary duty claims in the bankruptcy proceedings of Sears and affiliated companies, among other high-stakes matters.

Before beginning his legal career, Matt served aboard four ships as a surface warfare officer and nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy.

He joins HSG partner Priyanka Timblo, who was recently named to Crain's 2026 Notable Women in Law list, as the latest HSG lawyer honored by Crain's New York Business.
