James McGuire, Vincent Levy, and Daniel Sullivan Named to the New York Law Journal’s Inaugural New York Trailblazers List

05.20.2019

New York—The New York Law Journal has named Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP partners James McGuire, Vincent Levy, and Daniel Sullivan to its first-ever New York Trailblazers list. The award honors professionals who have moved the needle in the legal industry by acting as agents of change in the practice or business of law. Only 51 nominees were selected across New York.

Vince, a former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Dan, a former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, joined HSG in 2014 and 2015, respectively. In 2016, Jim, a former First Department justice, joined the firm. Since then, the three partners have created and grown a formidable appellate practice at HSG, one that has won major rulings, participated in landmark Supreme Court cases, and challenged entrenched players in the space.

HSG is now routinely asked to advise on appellate issues and has appeared as post-trial appellate counsel in various settings, from an important insider-trading appeal currently being briefed in the Second Circuit to an appeal in a high-profile divorce action in the First Department.

The firm’s appellate team—which lured an additional Supreme Court clerk, Greg Dubinsky, in 2017—has also been called upon to file numerous amicus briefs for high-profile clients in their most significant matters. The firm has represented legislators, academics, and institutions as diverse as the Brennan Center, Americans for Prosperity, and the NAACP. Last Term, the Supreme Court cited HSG’s amicus briefs in two separate matters (once at argument and once in an opinion).
