Four Holwell Shuster & Goldberg Partners Recognized on Euromoney’s Rising Stars Shortlist

New York—Four Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP partners have been named to Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2019 Rising Stars shortlist. The award recognizes attorneys under the age of 40 for their professional accomplishments, advocacy, and influence within their respective fields.

The HSG finalists, and the categories in which they are shortlisted for, are:

Avi Israeli: Best in Litigation: Securities – Recognized on this list for the second year in a row, Avi has been instrumental in establishing HSG as a leader in the most recent wave of RMBS putback disputes now resolving the enormous liabilities associated with the housing crisis. Among other matters, he represents a Facebook co-founder in numerous actions related to a dispute with an investment advisor and various individuals arising out of investments in Facebook stock. He also recently served as lead trial counsel representing former directors of the now bankrupt Liquid Holdings Group and secured dismissals of a multimillion-dollar securities fraud class action and an adversary proceeding that asserted claims against the directors for breach of fiduciary duties. 

Brendon DeMay: Best in Litigation: Securities – On the heels of helping obtain a historic $2.4 billion verdict in the Lehman Brothers RMBS bankruptcy trial, Brendon has secured a string of securities-related victories within the past 12 months. On behalf of HSBC as trustee, he recently won an appeal reviving hundreds of millions of dollars in claims, and he won a separate dispute regarding a novel statute of limitations question.

Blair Kaminsky: Best in Litigation: General Commercial – Also shortlisted for the second year in a row, Blair has a wide-ranging practice focused on complex commercial litigation. She represents both individuals and corporations in litigation and investigatory matters frequently touching on large-scale transactions and the financial services industry. She currently represents Visa in putative nationwide class actions and dozens of individual antitrust actions brought by some of the largest retail merchants in the world.

Dan Sullivan: Best in Litigation: Appellate – A former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Dan has been instrumental in developing HSG’s appellate practice, which under his leadership has participated in landmark SCOTUS cases and notched major appellate wins. Recently, Dan represented Caterpillar, Inc. in a successful appeal in the First Department from an adverse asbestos verdict, as well as a primary insurance carrier and an excess carrier in a successful $286 million appeal in the First Department in an insurance coverage dispute.
