05.17.2021

New York—Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP associates Denisha Bacchus and Meredith Nelson have been named to Profiles in Diversity Journal’s 2021 Women Worth Watching list, which recognizes professional women across the globe who are influencing their workplaces and industries.

At HSG, Denisha leverages a variety of litigation experience, including in residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial contracts, bankruptcy, antitrust, insurance, and international law. She is the lead associate on one of the opioid coverage cases in which the firm represents Chubb as lead trial and appellate counsel against some of the largest players in the pharmaceutical industry. Denisha also recently argued a pro bono motion before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and won, securing the first successful bail release for a civil immigration detainee at the appellate level. Within the firm, Denisha plays a large role in HSG’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which aims to further its commitment to improving diversity and inclusion internally, and within the legal profession. Denisha also spearheaded the launch of HSG’s inaugural First-Generation Professionals Affinity Group.

Meredith focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation disputes and is a key member of the HSG team representing HSBC and other bank trustees in multiple RMBS putback litigations, each with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. Meredith was also the lead associate on the HSG team representing Travelport, a travel technology company, in connection with a dispute with its lenders under a $3 billion credit agreement. In her active pro bono practice, Meredith recently represented a Jamaican man in his appeal of an order of deportation to the Eleventh Circuit, ultimately obtaining the termination of all deportation proceedings against him and securing his release from a detention facility.

Denisha was featured in the summer issue of Profiles in Diversity Journal. Her profile can be viewed here.

Additional HSG lawyers previously named Women Worth Watching include Dorit Ungar Black, Blair Kaminsky, Jayme Jonat, Eileen Monaghan DeLucia, Karen Sebaski, Priyanka Timblo, Nina Kanovitch Schiffer, and Margot Hoppin.
