Holwell Shuster & Goldberg Sponsors NBLSA’s Historic 50th National Convention

03.19.2018

New York—Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP proudly sponsored the National Black Law Students Association’s 50th National Convention, which took place March 13-18, 2018 in New York. The NBLSA is one of the largest student-run organizations in the United States, and aims to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students to effectuate change in the legal community.

The annual event, which had a theme of “Celebrating Our Legacy, Advancing Our Mission,” offered various social, professional, and educational opportunities to attendees.

During the convention, HSG partners Blair Kaminsky and Demian Ordway participated as judges in the organization’s annual Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition. Created to provide NBLSA members with an opportunity to improve their brief writing and advocacy skills, the competition brings together students from various law schools to compete in a mock oral argument before the U.S. Supreme Court. It is one of the oldest continuous competitions in the country.

Blair and Demian, who both began their careers at prominent Am Law 100 firms, also spoke on panels, offering guidance on how to map a career in Big Law. Additionally, Blair and HSG associate Nina Kanovitch took part in mock interviews with 1Ls and 2Ls and provided recruiting advice to law school students, and HSG associate Matthew Gurgel and Jessica Walker, the firm’s marketing and recruiting coordinator, participated in a networking expo.
